We distinguish between two types of funeral - church and civic.
The civil ceremony is usually held in a mourning ceremonial hall, followed by cremating or burial into grave / tomb. It is possible to say goodbye to the deceased even without a mourning ceremony, either by cremation or by placing in grave / tomb.
In the latter case of church burial, the ceremony can take place in a church or in a cemetery - right by the tomb. Next, you decide whether you let the deceased be buried or cremated (with respect to the belief of the deceased).
